ABSTRACT
Heavy metal pollution has become a major environmental hazard worldwide, causing harmful effect on aquatic as well as terrestrial life. Large scale industries are responsible for discharging wastewater directly into water bodies. Arsenic trioxide (As2O3) is one of the lethal heavy metals. The present study was conducted to determine the 96-Hr LC50 value of arsenic trioxide for the fish Cyprinus carpio. Cyprinus carpio is freshwater edible fish.During experiment, total of 64 fishes, divided into eight groups were exposed to different concentrations of arsenic trioxide. All the fishes were daily observed and dead fishes were removed promptly. Mortality rate was recorded regularly. On the basis of recorded mortality, 96-Hr LC50 of As2O3 was calculated by using Finney’s Probit Static Bioassay test system using SPSS software. For fish, the 96- Hr LC50 value was found to be 13.74 mg/g body weight. The mortality of fish is directly dependent on dosage concentration.
