ABSTRACT

This study focused on the development and evaluation of a voriconazole-loaded nanoliposomal gel for targeted topical treatment of fungal skin infections. Nanoliposomes were prepared using suitable lipid components and incorporated into a gel base to enhance local drug delivery while minimizing systemic adverse effects associated with conventional antifungal therapy. The formulations were characterized for vesicle size, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency, pH, drug release, and antifungal activity, whereas the gels were evaluated for homogeneity, viscosity, spreadability, extrudability, drug content, and in vitro drug diffusion. The developed nanoliposomal gels exhibited favorable physicochemical properties, skin-compatible pH, efficient drug entrapment, and sustained drug release with enhanced diffusion. Among the tested formulations, batch F2 demonstrated the highest antifungal activity and overall performance.
