Development and Evaluation of Sustainable Scrub Pads Utilizing Coir and Sponge Gourd Fibers

ABSTRACT This study investigates the feasibility of producing sustainable scrub pads using a combination of coir and sponge gourd fibers. The aim is to develop an environmentally friendly alternative to conventional synthetic scrub pads, addressing concerns related to plastic waste and resource depletion. The process involves softening coir fibers, blending them with sponge gourd fibers, and fabricating the scrub pads using conventional sewing techniques. The resulting scrub pads were evaluated for their cleaning efficacy, durability, water absorption, and biodegradability. This research demonstrates the potential of utilizing readily available natural fibers to create sustainable household products, contributing to a circular economy and reducing environmental impact.
