Differential Diagnosis of Sandhigata Vata and Asthimajjagata Vata with Their Ayurvedic Management

ABSTRACT The musculoskeletal system provides support, stability and helps in movement of the body, Knee is one of the most important joints of our body. It plays an essential role in movements. In Ayurveda knee joint is mentioned as site of Marma which is meeting point of Mamsa, Asthi, Sandhi, Sira and Snayu. Vata Vyadhi is a group of diseases caused by vitiated Vata, Sandhigata Vata and Asthimajjagata Vata both are Musculoskeletal disorders causing pain in affected joints and bone, Painful condition involving single or multiple joints restricted and difficulty in movements with or without swelling and crepitus. Aggravation of Vata Dosha in Sandhi means joints responsible for a disease known as Sandhivgata Vata, Pain in joints, restriction of movements, swelling, tenderness, and cracking sound b/w two joints are the presenting symptoms. Dhatu like Asthi and Majja in Prakrutha Avastha does Dharana and Purana to body, and in Vikrutha Avastha leads to Asthi Shoola, Asthi Kshaya etc. The symptoms of Asthimajjagata Vata also similar to Sandhigata Vata, but there are some differentiation points including signs and symptoms mentioned in Lakshana, by which we can differentiate both conditions and plan the Management Accordingly.
