Dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis) and Honey Medicated Lip-balm

ABSTRACT

Recently demand for natural product increases especially in the cosmetic industries. Cosmetics are incredibly in demand since historical time these days focus shifted more towards organic naturally cosmetic products. Lip balm is wax like one of the widely used cosmetic product which are applied topically to lip, whose purpose is to give a color to the lip as well as prevents the lip dryness, chapping and protect against adverse environmental factor. The purpose of study is to make medicated lip balm from Dragon fruit (Hylocereus costaricensis) and Honey (Apis mellifera) to produce good quality, good color and in production of effective medicated lip balm. They help to protect the natural health and beauty of the lips. Lip balm often contains beeswax or carnauba wax, cetyl alcohol, castor oil, lanolin, paraffin, among other ingredients; some varieties contains dyes, flavor, fragrance, phenol and salicylic acid. Lip balm are not gender specific product and both men and women can use them. The dragon fruit peel have indicate as a potential natural colorant having good antioxidant activity. Prepared lip balm was evaluated for organoleptic characteristic melting point, spread-ability and pH measurement. 

In summary, dragon fruit and honey which produce high quality of medicated lip balm and has higher marketing potential were the production cost is cheaper and it is considered as organic product. In 2022 the global lip balm market in India is projected to grow by 3.01% (2023-2027) resulting in a market volume of US $1.55 billion in 2027. In US, The market is predicted to grow at a rate of 9.28% within next 5 year and is likely to reach US $1247.74 million by 2027.
