ABSTRACT
Concrete is an important construction material used for construction of foundation, slab, column, beam and other load bearing element. Various type of binding material used in concrete like cement, lime. Concrete mix is a mixture of cement, water, coarse aggregate, fine aggregate, air and other. Depending upon the type of construction, the ratio of this material varies to obtain the desired strength. Glass fiber is one of the important material which can be added into concrete mix to enhance the strength and other mechanical properties .Glass fiber are used as reinforcement in order to enhance tensile strength, flex modulus, creep resistance, impact resistance, dimensional stability, heat chemical resistance etc. It also reduces bleeding of water in concrete and prevent micro-cracking at concrete interface leads to high crack resistance. Fiber glass has some advantages over other material like thickness, weight, strength, size, texture, and lightness, non-rotting. Glass fiber is inorganic manmade fibers. It is mainly made up of quartz or silicon dioxide, calcium oxide, aluminium oxide, boron oxide and some other metallic oxide. Due to unique properties of glass fiber, it has high potential for possible usage in concrete. From the view point of durability, economy and environment glass fiber is an excellent mineral admixer.
