Efficacy of Snehan Putpaka in the Mangement of Computer Vision Syndrom- A Singal Case Study

ABSTRACT

Ayurveda is an integral and most ancient form of medical stream related to the wholesome cure of the ailments by the natural remedies in the form of both herbal formulations and purificatory procedures. It gives equal importance to preventive and curative aspects of diseases. Ayurveda defines total health in the aspect of physical, mental, social and spiritual wellbeing. Its holistic approach towards positive life style creates its inevitable importance in the global scenario in recent times. Sushruta –the Ayurvedic pioneer is said to be an authority for health & diseases of eyes, has advised a special type of treatment called as ‘Kriyakalpa’ The term ‘Kriyakalpa’ comprises a number of local measures, claimed to be the most efficacious in the management of all the eye diseases. Putapaka is most commonly performed after tarpan to relieve the fatigue of eye. Putapaka is one of the kriyakalpa used in the same mode of application as that of tarpan in eye diseases. ‘Putapaka’ – a local therapeutic application advocated by Sushruta which is advocated in eye disaese. Putapaka is highly modified procedures for ophthalmic medication in which putapaka rasa is used in the same mode of application as that of tarpana. Snehan type of putapaka indicated specially in Vataj predominant conditions. The aim for the selection of this topic is to share the modified and practical methods for preparing putapaka rasa with the scientific community and also discuss about the necessity of doing putapaka as it is not practiced by Shalakya professionals regularly because of its time consuming and lengthy procedure which needs effort to prepare the medicine (Putapaka rasa).
