Engineering A Sustainable Solution: Waste Removal Boat
Author Name : Abhay Nischal
ABSTRACT
This research project includes results of a survey conducted for individuals across the Middle East (over 60 respondents) to help gauge what people identify as the most pressing environmental concern. The results of the survey highlighted thatthe respondents felt most strongly about pollution, specifically water pollution. Waste clean ups have proven a tough feat given the complexity of such a task. In response, this research project identifies a potential solution to this problem: a waste removal boat for polluted water bodies. This project investigates the necessary components requiredto build the boat as well as the design process that was undertaken. Further, this project was restricted to stagnant water bodies like Hauz Khas Lake in New Delhi (which happens to be one of the most polluted lakes in India). A core focus of the research project was to maintain sustainability throughout the process, ensuring that the final product was eco-conscious. Consequently, the final design included solar panels and recycled material, ultimately achieving this goal. The thesis further explains the endeavours to construct this boat, while highlighting the severity of pollution at present.
