Author Name : Dr. Asmita Balasaheb Kadam, Dr. Anuja Amit Wadadekar

ABSTRACT The history of cannabis in India is deeply rooted in cultural, religious, medicinal, and industrial contexts. In ancient Indian texts such as the Vedas, cannabis (known as "ganja" or "bhang") is mentioned as one of the five sacred plants and is associated with Lord Shiva, a prominent deity in Hinduism. Cannabis has held deep traditional and cultural significance in India, manifesting in various forms such as bhang, ganja, and charas. Medicinally, cannabis has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for its therapeutic properties. Cannabis laws in India have evolved significantly over time, reflecting changes in societal attitudes, international influences, and regulatory frameworks. Public perception of cannabis in India is influenced by various factors, including cultural traditions, legal frameworks, medical research, public health concerns, and international influences. This study aims to examine the changing trends in cannabis use in India.
