Fabrication and Evaluation of Smart Bilayer Orodispersible Film of Levetiracetam for Epilepsy Management

ABSTRACT The present study focused on the development and evaluation of a smart bilayer orodispersible film (ODF) of Levetiracetam, designed to provide rapid drug release coupled with effective taste masking for the prompt management of epileptic seizures, especially during the aura phase. Nine formulations (F1–F9) were prepared via solvent casting, utilizing polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC E5) as hydrophilic film formers in the drug layer, and Eudragit E100 as a pH-sensitive polymer in the upper layer for taste masking.
