ABSTRACT The confinement of reinforced concrete (RC) columns using Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites has been extensively studied over the past four decades and is now widely adopted in seismic retrofitting practice. However, the efficiency of FRP confinement in rectangular columns — particularly those with high aspect ratios — is considerably lower than for circular sections due to non-uniform lateral pressure distribution and corner stress concentrations. Fiber anchors, discrete through-thickness connectors fabricated from the same FRP material, have emerged as a promising mechanism to overcome this limitation by redistributing confinement pressure more uniformly across the column face, thereby mobilising a greater fraction of the FRP jacket capacity.
