Financial Inclusion and Credit Access among Fisherwomen Entrepreneurs in Trivandrum: Opportunities and Challenges

Author Name : Dr. Jinu L

ABSTRACT Financial inclusion is a critical driver of economic empowerment, particularly for women entrepreneurs in informal sectors. This study examines the extent of financial inclusion and access to institutional credit among fisherwomen entrepreneurs in Trivandrum, who play a vital role in the local fisheries economy. Despite the increasing pe0netration of digital financial services and government-led financial inclusion programs, many fisherwomen continue to face challenges in accessing formal financial services, securing loans, and utilizing digital payment systems effectively. The study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining primary data from surveys and interviews with secondary data from financial reports and government policies. A sample of fisherwomen engaged in fish retailing across major markets in Trivandrum (Vizhinjam, Valiyathura, Karamana) is analyzed to assess their banking habits, credit access, and digital transaction adoption.
