Formulation and Characterization of Microsphere Containing Rabeprazole Sodium
Author Name : Megha Ladha, Prof. Kamlesh Dashora, Dr. Praveen Khirwadkar
ABSTRACT The primary objective of this study was to formulate and assess mucoadhesive microspheres containing Rabeprazole Sodium. The formulation and evaluation process of various batches, incorporating a range of ingredients, were conducted successfully. The results of all the evaluation parameters were found to be well within acceptable limits, indicating the successful completion of the investigative work. Prolonged gastric retention contributes to improved bioavailability, reduced drug wastage, and enhanced solubility for drugs with low solubility in a high pH environment. This approach also has applications in localized drug delivery to the stomach and proximal small intestines, offering new therapeutic possibilities and substantial patient benefits. In this study, we endeavored to formulate microspheres of Rabeprazole Sodium using different polymers. Mucoadhesive drug delivery systems are gaining prominence due to their ability to retain orally administered drugs in the gastrointestinal tract for extended durations, thereby enhancing drug absorption and bioavailability. Various experimental tests were conducted on both the drug and the prepared microsphere formulations, following documented standard procedures. The results were found to fall within established standards. Among all the prepared formulations, F5 exhibited the highest release rate and maximum drug content, while F4 showed the lowest. Furthermore, Carbopol 934 was identified as a superior permeation enhancer compared to HPMC.
