ABSTRACT
The present research work aimed to develop, optimize and evaluate mouth dissolving film or wafer of memantine hydrochloride using film formed by solvent casting technique to treat alhizemers disease. Oral routes are the most commonly preferred route for delivering the drug. The most common oral dosage forms are tablets and capsules. But many patients such as geriatric, pediatric and dysplasia patients find difficult to swallow conventional tablet and capsule. This dosage form allows the medication to bypass the first-pass metabolism so the bioavailability of medication may be improved. Mouth dissolving film has the potential to improve the onset of action lower the dosing and eliminate the fear of choking. Formulation of mouth dissolving films involves both the visual and performance characteristics as plasticized hydrocolloids; API taste-masking agents are being laminated by solvent casting and semisolid casting method. Solvent casting method being the most preferred method over other methods because it offers great uniformity of thickness and films prepared to have a fine glossy look and better physical properties. Oral films are evaluated for various attributes such as thickness, Surface pH, folding endurance, disintegration, and dissolution study. This review describes the formulation methodology, evaluation parameter.
Keywords: Mouth dissolving film, alhizemer disease, solvent casting method, folding endurance, active pharmaceutical ingredient.
