ABSTRACT
In most recent couple of many years, there has been extraordinary development in field of herbal medicine. The different extract of parts of plants showed promising pharmacological actions. A herb soap was formulated using bark extract of Bauhinia variegata. The Bauhinia variegata contain numerous clinical properties, it goes about as antibacterial, antifungal, antimicrobial, anti inflammatory, antidiabetic, antitubercular, nephroprotective,anti-ulcer and anti-oxidant. Common name of Bauhinia variegata is Orchid tree and it otherwise called Kachnar in Marathi. It belongs to Fabaceae family. The methanolic bark extract of bauhinia veriagata showed antibacterial action as it inhibited Gram positive microbes Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus substilis. A very good attempt was made to establish the antibacterial herbal soap containing methanolic extract of Bauhinia Variegata. The methanolic bark extract of B.Variegata shows the potential in soap formulation. Herbal soap was formulated using cold process technique and further subjected to physicochemical characterization such as total fatty matter, moisture content, colour, odour, texture, foam test, total alkali content and pH. The prepared formulation showed good physicochemical characteristics and excellent foaming property. Antibacterial activity of soap was checked by agar well diffusion method against S. aureus and E.coli. The cup-plate method was used for determining the selective effectiveness of the anti-bacterial activity. The formulated soap showed the good antibacterial activity as the commercial standard.
