ABSTRACT

Treatment of ocular illnesses presents a significant problem when pharmaceuticals need to be delivered into the eyes using traditional drug delivery methods, such as solutions. The principal barriers include blood-ocular barriers, lachrymal fluid-eye barriers, and drug loss from the ocular surface caused by lachrymal fluid secretion. To increase the bioavailability and lengthen the residence duration of medications administered topically to the eye, a variety of ocular drug delivery carriers have been developed. The potential use of microemulsions as an ocular drug delivery vehicle offers several advantageous pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical properties, including their excellent thermodynamic stability, phase transition to the liquid-crystal state, extremely low surface tension, and small droplet size, which may improve ocular drug retention, extend the duration of action, increase ocular absorption, and permeate loaded surfaces. In the present research work we have formulated and evaluate the ophthalmic microemulsion using corticosteroid (SUN-LE-1) to increase the solubility.
