Gender Disparity in Literacy Rate: A Case Study at Village Level of Newai Tehsil, (Tonk District, Rajasthan)

ABSTRACT
Literacy has been considered as on the prime factor and indicator of socio-economic development of the people of a region. A literate person plays a very important role in the economic, social and cultural development of any country. Literacy is a tool of individual empowerment as well as it is helpful in reducing infant mortality rate and gender inequality fear. The level of literacy is the main indicator showing the development of the society. According to the UNESCO “Literacy is the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, compute and written material associate with varying contracts. Newai Tehsil id developed tehsil of Tonk district from commercial and industrial point of view. Literacy rate of Newai tehsil according to 2011 census is 64.59 percent. The objective of the present paper is to study male female literacy gap at village level of Newai tehsil. The study has entirely based on the secondary data, which is gained from the various documents of census of India 2001 and 2011 and district census handbook, Tonk 2001 and 2011.The gained data is converted in the form of table. Arc GIS software is used for preparing map. As a conclusion of the study, we can say that there has been a decrease in male female literacy gap at village level in tehsil during the period 2001-2011.
