ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Uma Chakravarti was the first who coined the concept ‘Bhrahmanical Patriarchy” in 1993 in her article “Conceptualizing Bhramanical Patriarchy in Early India: Gender, Caste, Class and State”. Uma Chakravarti (born 20 August 1941) is an Indian historian and filmmaker. She extensively writes on Gender, caste and class. She was born in Kerala and she went to school in Delhi and Bangalore. She has completed his Masters’ degree from Banaras Hindu University. She taught in Miranda House, University of Delhi. She published her first book-Social dimensions of Early Buddhism as a part of doctorate study in 1987. Her famous writing “The life and Times of PandithaRamabai” (1998) and “Gendering caste through a feminist lens” (2002), have been well received by both the audience and fellow academicians. Uma chakravarti is a historian feminist, apart from engaging in feminist issues, she has also worked as a civil right activist. She has participated in several fact-finding committees such as Tribunal on Justice for Gujarat.
