Green synthesis of 5-acetyl-4phenyl-6-methyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one using biocatalyst
Author Name : Mrunalini D. Kulkarni
ABSTRACT
A three component acid catalysed reaction between an aldehyde, a β-keto compounds and urea constitutes a rapid and facile synthesis of dihydropyrimidones,This compounds are interesting due to their potential for pharmaceutical application. From this point of view, investigations on these compounds were very fast with major emphasis being on streamlining mainly Lewis acid catalysts. Along with variations in the acidic catalysts used , solvent systems and several heating mode changes have been carried out extensively. Owing to the increased use of Green technology approach, due to its various merits over classical methodology and as a need for sustainable chemistry, this reaction has received renewed interest for preparing dihydropyrimidones in an ecofriendly manner. The classical method has been modified in the recent past by using various catalysts and environment friendly technologies. The present paper explores a laboratory synthesis of 5-acetyl-4-phenyl-6-methyl-3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one with a Greener approach using natural stat fruit juice as a catalyst with microwave irradiation. The yields with classical method and this method are compared.
Key words: Dihydropyrimidone, Lewis acid, star fruit juice, microwave irradiation
