ABSTRACT

The biosynthesis of zinc nanoparticles used in anvarious research for it’s potential application for the eco-friendly development of novel technologies. Generally, nanoparticles are prepared by a variety of chemical methods which are not environmentfriendly. A green synthesis of zinc nanoparticle was carried out using rhizome of Alpinia galanga. On treatment of aqueous solution of 1mM zinc acetate (ZnC4H6O4) with rhizome extract, zinc nanoparticles could be rapidly synthesized within one hour. These nanoparticles were characterized with UV-visible spectroscopy, Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and X-ray Diffraction (XRD).X- ray diffraction (XRD) results confirmed that these nanostructures exhibit a face centered cubic crystal structure. The antioxidant analysis showed better percentage inhibition for the synthesized zinc nanoparticles. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant activity of synthesized zinc oxide nanoparticles using rhizome of Alpinia galanga showed the maximum inhibition for antioxidant test of DPPH assay method (90.29 µg/ml) and for anti-inflammatory test of albumin denaturation  (58.02 µg/ml), proteinase (67.34  µg/ml), lipoxygenase (44.79 µg/ml) and for hypotonicity induced haemolysis (72.07 µg/ml).
