INTRODUCTION
A new chapter in the Indo-US relations span a wide range of activities and spheres of mutual trust, cooperation and interests. India has gradually become an essential part of the US global strategy to ensure a unipolar world order. A key part of this game plan is defense partnership involving a series of defense agreements, pacts and partnerships resulting in increase in joint exercises, extensive state of the art defense procurement and various other interactions. World’s largest and oldest democracies have come close based on converging interests and is likely to be more sustainable as it is based on mutual benefit against the common contemporary foe.
At the center of USA’s defense relations are the four “foundational” agreements namely, General Security of Military Information Agreement (GSOMIA), Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA), Communications Compatibility and Security Agreement (COMCASA) and Basic Exchange and Cooperation Agreement (BECA).
