Herbal Medication for Typhoid Fever: A Review of Current Evidence
Author Name : Wasimakhtar , Kailash Rani , Manish Kumar Prajapati, Bushra Husain, Naziya,Taiyaba
ABSTRACT This review article examines the current evidence on the use of herbal medication for the treatment of typhoid fever, a serious infectious disease caused by Salmonella typhi. While conventional treatment involves antibiotics, the emergence of drug-resistant strains has led to an interest in alternative options. Herbal medications derived from plant sources have been used traditionally for various ailments and may offer potential benefits for typhoid fever. The review summarizes the commonly used herbal remedies and evaluates their efficacy and safety based on available research. Several herbs, including Andrographis paniculata, Ocimum sanctum, Azadirachta indica, Allium sativum, and Zingiber officinale have shown antimicrobial and immunomodulatory properties that could aid in typhoid fever treatment. However, the current evidence is limited, and more high-quality trials are needed to establish their effectiveness. Safety concerns, including potential adverse effects and interactions with conventional medications, should also be considered. Integration of herbal medicines into evidence-based treatment protocols for typhoid fever requires collaboration between traditional medicine practitioners and modern healthcare systems.
