High-Performance Materials used for UAV Manufacturing: Classified Review

ABSTRACT

Recent developments in unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have opened up possibilities for new applications. Now, their use is not only restricted to military services but to the public sector as well. Being applied in different sectors require them to be made of different materials as well. Also, the number of UAVs being used increases, and lightweight and high-strength materials would be required to resist all the aerodynamic loads while being in the air for a longer period of time. This paper presents the classification of materials - composites, alloys, modelling, and 3D printing - all used in UAVs. Different parameters like cost, weight, strength and manufacturing processes are discussed. It also touches upon the future materials that are developed to reduce their present limitations for future applications. The objective of the paper is to give the readers an idea of choosing a particular UAV for their required application.
