Impact of Urbanization on Economic Growth in India

ABSTRACT Urbanization is associated with advancement and industrialization. It is about shifting towards more goal oriented methods from the traditional ones. It’s not merely a new concept, but an established fact that, people are increasingly moving from rural areas to towns and cities, causing a shift in the way of living and the culture they’re exposed to. This means that the old ways of life, traditions, and values of rural communities are gradually being replaced by the ways of urban life, often faster than expected. The rural people shift to the urban sectors to attain better livelihood however the picture of urbanization is not so sublime as it apparently seems. Urbanization in India has a varied impact, driving economic growth and job creation but also causing challenges like inequality, environmental degradation, and strain on infrastructure.
