ABSTRACT Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder marked by high blood glucose levels, impacting millions worldwide and increasing the risk of severe health issues like cardiovascular diseases, neuropathy, nephropathy, and retinopathy. Effective diabetes management is essential to prevent these complications and enhance the quality of life for patients. Despite current treatment options, there remains a significant need for new, more effective antidiabetic medications due to individual variations in treatment response and the disease's progressive nature. This necessity drives the continuous search for novel therapeutic agents. This review highlights key in vitro methods crucial in the early stages of developing antidiabetic drugs. These methods encompass glucose uptake assays, insulin secretion assays, α-amylase inhibition assays, and α-glucosidase inhibition assays.
