ABSTRACT Background: Intestinal obstruction is a common surgical emergency that can have different causes, including colon cancer. It is estimated that between 8% and 30% of colon cancer cases may initially present as acute intestinal obstruction. This presentation is more frequent in older patients and may require emergency surgical treatment. In these cases, exploratory laparotomy allows identification of the cause of the obstruction and performance of the necessary treatment.
