“Indian Bureaucracy” in Contemporary Times: Challenges, Reforms, and Future Directions

Author Name : Prof. Nitin Chaturvedi

ABSTRACT The Indian bureaucracy, a cornerstone of the country's governance framework, has undergone significant evolution over the decades. This paper examines the current state of the Indian bureaucracy, focusing on its structure, contemporary challenges, and recent reforms aimed at enhancing efficiency and transparency. The analysis delves into pressing issues such as corruption, political interference, and administrative delays, while also exploring the impact of globalization and digital initiatives on bureaucratic processes. Through a comprehensive review of literature, qualitative data from interviews, and case studies, this paper provides a nuanced understanding of the complexities within the system. The findings suggest that while recent reforms have shown promise, persistent efforts are required to address systemic inefficiencies and foster a more accountable and transparent bureaucracy. The paper concludes with recommendations for future reforms and strategies to improve the functioning of the Indian bureaucracy.
