Influence of Perturbation Training in Postural Balance among Sub-Acute Stroke

Author Name : Dr. S. Nithiya, Aswani

ABSTRACT A stroke often significantly impacts postural balance, causing impairments like increased sway, difficulty maintaining a stable posture, and asymmetry in weight distribution, primarily due to muscle weakness on one side of the body, leading to difficulties with standing, sitting, and walking, and increasing the risk of falls in stroke patients; this can significantly limit their daily activities and independence. The aim of this study is to investigate the influence of perturbation training in postural balance among sub-acute stroke. The study was designed by quasi experimental design. Totally 30 subjects who met the selection criteria by using convenient sampling technique, they were divided into two groups15 in experimental and 15 in control group. Both experimental and control group were assessed by postural assessment scale for stroke patients (PASS)after this pre- test data has obtained, the experimental group underwent perturbation training based on occupational therapy activities for40 minutes on regular basis, weekly 6 sessions and totally 24 sessions were given. On the other hand, control group received conventional therapy for the same duration. After the intervention period got over the post-test was taken for both experimental group and control group by using postural assessment scale for stroke patient scale. The pre-test and post-test scores were statistically calculated and analyzed.
