ABSTRACT Neonatal bloodstream infections continue to pose a significant challenge in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), particularly among infants requiring invasive medical devices like Umbilical venous (UV) catheters. The increasing occurrence of Multidrug Resistant (MDR) pathogens further makes the treatment complex and in turn highlights the need for rapid and accurate microbial identification. In the present investigation a total of 47 clinical blood samples (Catheter) were screened and one isolate showing resistance to multiple antibiotics was selected for detailed investigation. Antimicrobial Susceptibility test by Kirby-Bauer disc diffusion method, demonstrated resistance to ampicillin, penicillin G, amikacin, gentamycin, azithromycin and erythromycin. Molecular identification of multi drug resistant isolate through 16S rRNA gene sequencing confirmed as Enterococcus faecium, . The study highlights the importance of combining conventional and molecular techniques for accurate identification of multi-drug resistant pathogens, helping in timely treatment and better infection control.
