Job Profile of Chikankari Workers in Lucknow's Unorganized Sector and Effects on their Health

ABSTRACT
The City of Lucknow is famous for its architecture, its culture and the history of India. For its many fine handicrafts Lucknow is renowned throughout the world. Chikankari, hand blocks, textile printing, Zari, Zartis, ivory or bone carving, terracotta and numerous other names that are used by different artisans from Lucknow are some of the most common names on the list. The most famous of these is Chikankari, which is recognized globally. It is a fine art of embroidery made with untwisted yarn with the aid of the needle on a fine fabric. The present study carried out in two blocks (Malihabad and Kakori) of Lucknow. The random sampling techniques were used to selection of the data. A total 150 chikankari workers were selected from unorganized sector of Lucknow. comparing the data among different units of chikankari industry, it was observed that major temporary chronic problem faced by the workers, was tingling in hands, which was due to the conditions prevailing in their work place like staying in one position for a long period of time and who were involved in embroidery task were suffering from arthritis crisis, as a majorly health concern. These all persistent problem faced by various blocks of chikankari workers were temporary in nature and were due to the situation under which tasks were conducted.
