Jungal Balahu: The Great Tiwa King

ABSTRACT Jungal Balahu was a king of Sohori kingdom of Tiwa origin during the medieval period. He is known for his bravery warrior name and fame. He ruled the kingdom from 1245 to 1275 A.D. establishing capital city near Raha of Nagaon district, Assam. He constructed seven tired forts known as ‘Jungal Balahu Garh’ means the fort of Jungal Balahu to protect his capital city from external aggression. He constructed another fort from Silchang to Basundhari, known as Meragarh for the protection of his kingdom. He belongs to the Puma clan. He had a sword of divine origin known as ‘Deo Langkhui’. He fought last warfare of his lifetime without the sword of divine origin. Opinions differ however, on the spatiotemporal analysis of the warfare of the great Tiwa king, warrior Jungal Balahu among the historians. This is study is an attempt to know more Jungal Balahu and his kingdom through an historical analysis from various sources
