Author Name : Dr. Abdul Latif Ansary

ABSTRACT

Jyotiprasad Agarwala was a multi-talented genius who brought inventiveness, vitality, and modernism to Assamese play. Jyotiprasad, who was born in 1903, was also a revolutionary warrior who offered modern Assamese musicology a sense of mystery. He was an effective satyagrahi who used several organizational programmes to propagate the notion of freedom and the spirit of kindness. During the volatile days of the independence movement, he composed a lot of patriotic songs to motivate the people of Assam. Jyoti Sangeet is the genre of music he formed. He is known as the "Father of Assamese Cinema." His poetry, tales, and songs perfectly express his sense of patriotism, allegiance to his nation, and attitude of service to mankind. When Agarwala was in his teen age, he could able to establish himself as a dramatist with his play "Shonit Kowari.” This trend-setting Assamese drama deviates significantly from previous stage directions, locations, and music. He was a natural poet, and the poetic talents in Jyotiprasad inspired him to write " Shonit Kowari," a poetic drama.
