ABSTRACT

Holarrhena antidysenterica is a well-known medicinal plant which is frequently used in Ayurveda and itbelongs to Apocynaceae family.It is commonly known as Kutaj and used to treat various diseases. Its stem bark, leaves, flowers, roots and seeds are used to prepare many ayurvedic preparations.In modern era, many scientific studies also have been carried out on Kutaj which showed the varietyof pharmacological activities such asanti-diarrhoeal, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anti-diabetic, anti-urolithic, anti-oxidant etc.This paper is aimed to reviewits promising and wide range of pharmacological activities which could be utilized in several medical applications andto enlighten the way to synthesize and formulate new remedy for numerous other diseasesbecauseof its effectiveness and safety.
