ABSTRACT

Despite the fact that there are many dosage forms available on the market for successful action, lozenges are the best dosage type for formulating large dose medicaments. The development of lozenges dates back to the 20th century, and they are still common among consumers, resulting in commercial production. Lozenges are a palatable solid unit dosage type that is administered through the mouth. The anatomy of the mouth and cheeks facilitates opioid absorption into the system and improves patient compliance. Lozenges have a number of benefits and drawbacks.Lozenges enable a wide variety of active ingredients to be loaded for oral systemic drug delivery. Over-the-counter drugs such as lozenges are available. The justification for using medicated lozenges as one of the most common dosage forms for drug delivery. This article focuses on different aspects of lozenge formulation, giving formulation scientists insight into new applications for the lozenge drug delivery mechanism.
