Management of Shushkakshipaka w.s.r. to Dry Eye Syndrome - A Single Case Study
Author Name : Dr. Jayashree N. Bagade
ABSTRACT
Shushkakshipaka is a Sarvagata Netra Roga characterised by Daruna Ruksha Vartma and Avila Darshanam. The tear film overlays the ocular surface, which is comprised of the corneal and conjunctival epithelia, and provides the interface between these epithelia and external environment. The tear film is essential for the health and protection of the ocular surface and for the clear vision as the tear film is the first refractive surface of the eye. Dry eye syndrome is a condition when the tears aren’t able to provide adequate lubrication for eyes due to tear film damage. Shushkakshipaka can be correlated with dry eye syndrome. Materials and Methods :This is a case report of 42 years old Hindu woman who approached Shalakya Tantra eye OPD of Shri C. B. Guttal Ayurvedic Medical College, Dharwad, Karnataka with a feeling of dryness in both the eyes associated with foreign body sensation, blurring of vision, redness of eyes since 6 months. The subject was thoroughly examined and diagnosed as Shushkakshipaka. The subject was treated with SadyoVirechana, Nasya, Kriyakalpa and Shamanoushadhis. Result: The subject had shown good improvement both subjectively and objectively. Discussion: The conventional and effective treatment for dry eye is artificial tear drops and lubricants which gives a temporary relief from the symptoms. In this study we have adopted Ayurvedic treatments which are most effective without any side effects.
