Medicinal and Therapeutic Benefits of Mahogany (Swietenia macrophylla): Exploring the Fruits, Leaves, and Other Plant Parts

Author Name : Dr. Jivan Gangadhar Gadge, Dr. Mangesh Dhananjay Pachbhai

ABSTRACT Swietenia macrophylla, commonly known as mahogany, is a tropical hardwood tree native to Central and South America, traditionally valued not only for its timber but also for its medicinal properties. Various parts of the tree, including the leaves, seeds, bark, and fruits, have been used in folk medicine to treat a range of ailments, from inflammatory disorders and infections to diabetes and pain. Recent scientific studies have begun to validate many of these traditional uses by identifying and characterizing bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, alkaloids, terpenoids, and phenolic compounds, which are known for their antioxidant, antiinflammatory, antimicrobial, analgesic, and anti-cancer activities
