Author Name : Abhay Hinge, Shweta Agrawal
ABSTRACT Relevance to ethnopharmacology: Two essential medicinal plant species (family: Apocynaceae) are Alstonia scholaris (L.) R. Br. and Alstonia macrophylla Wall. ex G. Don. In India, Alstonia scholaris has been used therapeutically in both codified and non-codified medication systems to treat a variety of illnesses, including cancer, gastrointestinal issues, jaundice, and malaria. Among other species, Alstonia macrophylla has been utilized as an emmenagogue, vulnerary agent, anticholeric, antidysentery, antipyretic, aphrodisiac, and general tonic in traditional medicine in Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines. In India, a variety of herbal medicine formulations use Alstonia macrophylla instead of Alstonia scholaris. But it is undoubtedly impossible to assess a practice's veracity (i.e. in scientific terms). This page discusses and compiles comparative information regarding traditional uses. The toxicity, pharmacology, and phytochemistry of Alstonia macrophylla and Alstonia scholaris. Furthermore, gaps in current understanding are also emphasized in order to reveal potential avenues for future research.
