Molecular Identification and Categorization of Indian Wasp (Ropalidia marginata) from Agricultural field
Author Name : Mohan Kumar K, Dr. M Suja
ABSTRACT
Indian Wasp is one of the most common social paper wasp, found in different parts of the country. There are three main types of wasps: Paper wasps, Yellow jackets and Hornets. They are all similar in that they make paper nests. However, they differ in size, shape and location of their nest. Paper wasps, for example (Ropalidia) tend to build small, umbrella shaped nests under eaves and overhangs. In the nests females and males wasps are present. Queens are behaviourally docile and subordinate individuals. Yet, they are completely successful in suppressing reproduction by all nest mates. Field notes on shape and location of nests, the eggs, larvae, pupae and adults are summarized and subdominant, as far as determined by dissection and reported. DNA sequences are divergent among different species; species identification is possible with the DNA sequence data. Currently, COI gene sequences are used as a main molecular identification tool for insects.
