ABSTRACT

This Study is about the Motivation for performance and Job-Satisfaction with regard to reward management in the Greyhounds unit of Telangana police department.   Greyhounds Unit (Commando Force) was established in the United Andhra Pradesh State at Hyderabad in the year 1989 to deal with the problem of Naxalite Extremism. Police Personnel face grave risk to their life during the course of operations. In the beginning  25% Basic Pay+DA (Special Allowance) was offered as an Incentive for motivating Police Personnel to join Greyhounds Unit on deputation from State Police Units since there is no direct recruitment to the Greyhounds Unit. This Special Allowance has been increased from time to time and it is now 50% of Basic Pay + DA and 10% of Basic Pay for the Police Personnel working in the rank of DSP and below. A scheme of Accelerated Promotion was introduced for the Police Personnel who perform outstanding work in the anti-extremist field.

Study has been made about the factors of Motivation for performance and sources of Job-Satisfaction of the Police Personnel working in the Greyhounds Unit. The impact of extrinsic rewards, i.e., Special allowance and Accelerated promotion on the motivation for performance and Job-Satisfaction of the Police Personnel, has been investigated. Statistical Test i.e., Kendall’s W Test has been utilized. Hypotheses are tested. Test results revealed that there is a significant difference between the factors of Motivation for performance Likewise, a significant difference is found between the Job Satisfaction sources. The Extrinsic rewards, i.e., Special allowance and Accelerated promotion are found to have greater positive impact on the Motivation  for performance and Job-Satisfaction.
