Nanoencapsulation of Azithromycin with PHB (Poly Hydroxy Butyrate)
Author Name : Abish Kumar P, Dr. Arun kumar G
ABSTRACT
Nanoencapsulation is a novel approach in the field of nanoscience applied to various sectors, including food and pharmaceuticals, allowing for the controlled release of substances over a specific time period. The development of nanoparticles from polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) copolymers to encapsulate the drug azithromycin was investigated by the nanoprecipitation method. The developed nanosphere was characterised by FT-IR (Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy) and SEM analysis. The developed encapsulated drug with PHB revealed the presence and formation of nonencapsulated drug and PHB with a size range below 50nm. Azithromycin, which is very effective in current applications, including broad spectrum against gramme-negative organisms, was selected as a model drug to prepare antibiotic-loaded nanospheres for sustained and controlled drug release into the target site.
