Necrotizing Ulcerative Periodontitis: A Case Report

ABSTRACT Necrotizing ulcerative periodontitis (NUP) is a rapidly progressing and painful form of periodontal disease associated with immunosuppression, poor oral hygiene, and smoking. This case report presents a 65-year-old male chronic smoker with necrotic ulcerations localized to the maxillary left anterior region. Clinical features, diagnostic workup, therapeutic intervention, and the pathophysiological underpinnings of NUP are discussed with emphasis on the role of smoking and age-related immune decline in disease progression.
