ABSTRACT Nutrition plays a crucial role in enhancing sports fitness and performance by providing the necessary energy, supporting muscle recovery, and improving overall health. Athletes require a well-balanced diet that includes carbohydrates for energy, proteins for muscle repair, and healthy fats for sustained endurance. Proper hydration is also essential to prevent fatigue and maintain peak performance.Macronutrients such as carbohydrates serve as the primary fuel source for high-intensity activities, while proteins aid in muscle growth and recovery. Fats contribute to long-term energy needs, particularly in endurance sports. Additionally, micronutrients like vitamins and minerals, including iron, calcium, and electrolytes, support bodily functions and help prevent deficiencies that can negatively impact performance. Nutritional strategies vary depending on the type of sport, training intensity, and individual athlete needs. Pre-workout nutrition optimizes energy levels, while post-workout meals aid in recovery. Proper dietary planning can enhance endurance, strength, and mental focus, reducing the risk of injuries and fatigue. This review examines the crucial role of nutrition in enhancing the performance, endurance, and overall well-being of athletes, highlighting its impact on energy levels, recovery, and injury prevention.
