Patriarchal Values and Societal Discrimination in Mahesh Dattani’s Tara
Author Name : Dr. Sarfraz Ahamed
ABSTRACT The play presents the deep rooted patriarchal system in the society. Women act as a key in the hands of patriarchy to perpetuate patriarchal values. The paper examines gender discrimination, patriarchal domination, and the shocking force of common prejudice on individuals, especially girls, within the family structure. In this paper Tara symbolizes her as the major victim; retrieved her story and stresses the societal injustice of marginalizing daughters, even as the narrative follows Chandan's guilt. This paper explores the fondness for male children in Indian society and the psychosomatic contact of this prejudice on persons and families.
