Patriarchy And Its Traumatic Experience: A Study On The Selected Poems Of Kamala Das
Author Name : Aswathi Girish
ABSTRACT
Kamala Das is the Mother of Indian English poetry and one of the eminent postcolonial writers. Literature is an art that deals with the interest and struggles of many lives. Within the patriarchal structure, women have remained puppets in the hands of the heartless. By depicting women as other, Kamala Das tried to show their miserable position in society. She gave voice to the muted one's for the injustice they imbibe for years. The concept of male chauvinism has ruled the mental psyche of women. Even though she moaned aloud, her cries go unheard. This paper analyzes the predicament of women, how society degrades the status of women, and how she becomes the voice of the voiceless, through the poems: My Sunshine Cat, My Grandmother's House, Old Play House, An Introduction, and The Descendants.
Key Words: Male chauvinism, mental trauma, other, postcolonialism, subaltern, and voicelessness.
