‘Patriarchy as the Root Cause of Gender Discrimination: An Analysis’
Author Name : Jayashree Sarma
ABSTRACT
The concept of Patriarchy is often used term and practice in our day to day conversation. ‘Patriarchy’ refers to a structure of society which automatically privileges men over women such that women do not have any power or cannot claim to material, sexual or any other resources of a society. This prevailing unequal power relationship between men and women in a patriarchal society always breeds and legalise the discriminations and violence against women. Women have to suffer more for their rights, recognition and identity in all the spheres. The system of patriarchy even works as a catalyst for all kinds of discrimination based on gender. From the very early childhood period women are asked and must accept their inferior status with men in their social, economic, political, educational etc. lives and women, as a result, consider it as their normal way oflife.
