Perceived Factors Influencing Student’s Academic Performance in selected Senior High Schools in Kwahu East District, Ghana

ABSTRACT: The purpose of the study was to perceive factors that influence the poor academic performance of students in Kwahu East District. The study sought to find answers to what school factors and environmental factors cause students’ poor academic performance in the Kwahu East Senior High Schools. A descriptive design was used for the study. The population for this study was Senior High School students in the Kwahu East District. Within the Kwahu East District, there are five SHSs. All 265 students were sampled to take part in the research to help the researchers assess the information from students. Questionnaires were used for collecting data for the study. Data were analysed using frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. The study found that the atmosphere and physical environment of a school are influential determinants of the academic performance of students in Social Studies in the Kwahu East District of Ghana.
