ABSTRACT Background: Nayana Sukha Varti1 is formulation indicated in Timira, Arma (Pterygium), Kacha, Ashru (watery discharge), and Patalarogas. Anjana is widely explained in classics but very few commercial pharmaceutical dispensing forms are available thus, making its limited utility in therapeutics. Materials and Methods: This study is an attempt to make Anjana more user friendly by converting into ophthalmic ointment without disturbing its classical principles. Ointment was prepared using carbopol 940 as the base added with fine powders of 300 mesh size 1 part of Pippali and 2 parts of Haritaki. The final product was then subjected for physico-chemical, organoleptic and microbial tests. All the reports were documented. Results and Discussion: The results show the organoleptic characters and certify the sterility of the developed ointment Anjana. Conclusion: Nayana Sukha Varti Anjana was developed in the form of ophthalmic ointment and this paper details the analytical study of that prepared ointment.
