Phishing, Spoofing, and Social Engineering Attacks: Regulatory and Judicial Responses in India

ABSTRACT The scams of phishing, spoofing, and social engineering are playing a significant role in compromising the security of people on the internet. They attack human frailties to steal personal information and cash, and that is considerable at a global scale. In India, the digital boom implies that these scams affect a much greater number of people, banks, and even government offices. Subsequently, the law has continued to be refined over time with amendments and judicial rulings, and the rules have become even stricter due to the emergence of new threats. Rules such as the RBI regulations of banks, the SEBI regulations of stock market participants, and the laws of the NPCI to safeguard online payments have become important now.
