Photonic Crystal Based Bio Sensor for Cervical and Skin Cancer Diagnosis

ABSTRACT Cancer remains as formidable challenges in modern health-care, demanding innovative approaches to early detection and effective treatment. Bio-sensors have emerged as potential techniques for cancer detection due to high sensitivity, specificity, and potential for real time monitoring. Cancer cells have a higher refractive index (RI) than ordinary cells because they contain more protein in their cytoplasm. As a consequence, recognizing healthy from malignant cells is enough for developing a useful diagnostic sensor. Malignant cells shows a comparable shift in resonant wavelength due to change in refractive index. In the study, we present a two-dimensional (2D) photonic crystal(PhC) based biosensor with a hexagonal ring Resonator that consist of two straight wave guides. The proposed sensor has a Sensitivity and Q factor of 130nm/RIU and 1180.5.
