ABSTRACT
The present study aim at investigating Caryotaurens , a common palm tree for its phytochemical composition, phenolic content and antioxidant activity. Methanolic extract of the Caryotaurensseedswere used for the study. The qualitative test for phytochemical showed presence of sugars, alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, tannins and saponins. The total phenolic content of the extract was 11.4 .mg/gm of the sample. In vitro antioxidant activity was evaluated by ABTS radical scavenging method and ferric reducing antioxidant potential. During ABTS method extract showed 90.5 ± 0.070 percent inhibition. The FRAP value in this study was 0.0713±0.001061 mg/gm of the dry sample. According to the findings of this study, C urens has medicinal potential and may be exploited as a source of several bioactive chemicals and antioxidants.
